Failed to Run Task Sequence Error Coming in SCCM

Or, How to troubleshoot failed Task Sequence Error in SCCM?

The most common cause of failure during the imaging process  occurs after selecting the task sequence and is usually related to one package. The error received when this occurs will be similar to…











Solution Applies on SCCM 2007;-
  1. Delete the new/old PC from SCCM Console, re-add it, then ensure it shows within the OSD collection.
  2. Retry the PXE boot. ( This steps works in most of the cases, if this doesn’t work follow the next step)
  3. Restart the "WDS Service"(Windows Deployment Server) service on the SCCM Server at your location.
  4. Retry the PXE boot. (Stop here if it works)
  5. Stop the "WDS Service" from service Manager.
  6. Delete this Temporary directory from your SCCM Server \\LocationSCCMServer\c$\Windows\Temp\PXEBootFiles\Windows
  7. Start the "WDS Service' again.
And re-initiate PXE boot. Task Sequence will start.

Solution Applies on SCCM 2012;-
  1. Delete the new / Old Workstation Hostname from SCCM Console and Active Directory, re-add to Active Directory. And Ensure it does not exist duplicate entries in Active directory.
  2. Retry the PXE boot. ( This steps works in most of the cases, if this doesn’t work follow the next step)
  3. Restart the "WDS Service"(Windows Deployment Server) service on the SCCM Server at your location.
  4. Retry the PXE boot. (Stop here if it works)
  5. Stop the "WDS Service" from service Manager.
  6. Delete this Temporary directory from your SCCM Server \\LocationSCCMServer\c$\Windows\Temp\PXEBootFiles\Windows
  7. Start the "WDS Service' again.
And re-initiate PXE boot. Task Sequence will start.
